Quilting Services
Long arm quilting is a hand or computer guided stitching, which is full of imagination and personality.
Each quilt takes about one hour to load on the machine and set up the pattern.
To help us out please insure that your quilt top and backing are square. Longarm quilting does not fix misaligned work, uneven borders, puckers, or tucks.
Memory Quilt Blocks
We currently have a process where we can take your pictures and have them PRINTED on cloth which can then be used for quilts. These memory blocks are fully washable, flexible, and do not fade. The source picture can be of any subject, family members, kids pictures and projects, or anything else. We take any JPG source or we can scan them for you then create the block for sizes up to 16” by 16”. If you want to see an example of the results see the Kindergarten quilt.
Pricing
The prices that we charge are based on the size of the quilt and the complexity of the design that you want quilted. Pricing starts at .0129 (1.29 cent) per square inch and can range up to .06¢ square inch.
To figure the quilting charges, find the area of the quilt and multiply by charge.
width (in) X length (in) X quilting price = estimated quilting charges.
For Example:
81.25 in X 90.5 in = 7,353.125 (square inches) X 0.129 (cent per square inch) = $94.85
(All measurements are rounded to the quarter-inch. The price per square
inch may change depending upon the pattern that you choose.)
The following is offered as a good guideline for estimating the costs you may incur;
Simple meandering and simple overall designs which covers less complex patterns and large-scale meander patterns, (hearts, loops, simple starts).
Complex and tighter Border to Border .02 per square inch.
Custom designs and detailed patterns .03 to .04 per square inch please call for firm price
Stitch in the Ditch which is stitching in the seam lines round blocks and borders is .06 per square inch
When all is said and done, the cost for a quilt is competitive with all other quilters. For instance, a baby quilt is usually less than $30.00. This translates in a savings for you!
Batting
You can provide your own batting or purchase from us. However, if you wish to supply your own batting, please take the time to insure that it can stand the rigors of machine quilting per the manufacture's data. Our prices are inline with our local shops and may actually save you some money in that you buy what you need with no left over's or scraps.
I offer the following batting:
| Hobbs Heirloom (80/20) cotton/poly blend | $6.40 per yard |
| Hobbs 100% cotton | $7.53 per yard |
| Hobbs Poly blend | $5.60 per yard |
| Hobbs 80/20 Black | $6.40 per yard |
Please remember if doing a baby quilt that poly blends if they catch on fire may melt.
Quilt Preparation
1. Please press your quilt top. You can use spray starch to give your top body. Make sure that all the seams are pressed flat on the back and that they are facing in the direction you would like your quilt quitted. (This is particularly important if the quilt style you desire requires stitch in a ditch for stabilization or for the full effect).
2. Cut off trailing threads from the back of the quilt top. If there are light areas on your top, dark threads can readily detract from the finished product.
3. Check all of your seams and please make sure that they are within the seam allowance otherwise they will pull apart as we load it on our quilting machine.
4. Borders that do not lay flat will cause tucks, pleats or fullness where you do not want any of these things on you quilt.
5. Please indicate the top from the bottom because I will not know what side is what. Also fold the top of your quilt carefully.
1. 100% cotton makes the best backing fabric. Poly/Cotton &100% polyesters stretches differently than cotton and can cause tucks and puckering during the quilting.
2. Polyester fabrics may also "pill" and encourage "breading", or migrating of the batting fibers to the surface of the quilt.
3. Use of sheets or sheeting is strongly discouraged. Some sheeting may be fine, but most cause poor tension and constant thread breakage. My machine really does not like them.
4. Remove all selvages, both from seams and along the edges. Cut your backing and batting at least 4 inches larger than the top on all sides.
Again, if you wish to supply your own batting please verify that it can be machine quilted. This information can be found on the batting packaging. I have batting available. Please see BATTING for details.
Square your backing. Fold your backing into fourths (fold in half one direction and then in half the other direction). Square up the piece by cutting raw edges parallel to the folded edges.
Threads for your Quilt
I use only high quality cotton manufactured for quilting. Two or more colors per quilt are an additional $5.00 per color. Specialty thread, glow-thread, or metallic's are a minimum of $12.00 - $18.00 per quilt. Remember, these charges are in addition to the price established for the quilting
Shipping Instructions for Your Quilt
Please follow the PREPARATION instructions above. Do not pin or baste the layers, or attach the binding ahead of time. Mark top of quilt top and backing with a safety pin or piece of masking tape if the orientation maters of which side is top. If you want curved corners, please wait to cut the curves till after the quilt has been returned quilted.
With the backing, please leave at least four (4) inches larger on all sides. If you are including your batting, it also must be four (4) inches larger on all sides. If backing is seamed and you have a preference, please let us know which way you want the seam to be orientated. To safeguard your work please do not use the word "quilt" on the outside of the box. Someone could see it and suspect what is inside. Please address the box to me personally.
At this time I am unable to take charge cards.
Use the ORDER FORM. If for some reason you cannot print out the form, open in and use it as a guide for the information that I need to complete your order. If you have a particular pattern, let me know. Picking a thread color long distance is guessing at best, so unless you have a special thread , color and/or can provide sample of the thread, I will find the best color for your quilt. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email me. I will be doing the same if I have questions or concerns. So it is important the the information asked for on the order form includes your email address and/or your telephone number. If including phone number, please induicate the best time and time zone. I will use this to notify you in regard to payment when the quilt is finished.
Place the completed order form inside the package with your quilting instructions.
Please enclose a deposit of $40.00 (This will be applied to your total cost.), quilting instructions, and your batting choices or if you are enclosing your own batting.
Any materials sent by you that are not used, will be returned with the finished quilt.
